Important Tagging Guidelines

  1. We do allow the transfer of tags from other consignment sales; however, your consignor number that is printed on your tag MUST match the consignor number sequence that we require you register with for our sale.  When you transfer tags from another consignment sale, if your consignor number is a different sequence than our format (first and last initials of your name and last 4 digits of your cell phone number - PM2455), after you transfer your tags, you must reprint your tags so that the correct consignor number prints on your tags for our sale.  It is extremely important that your consignor number that prints on your tags matches the consignor number that you registered with in our system.  If the consignor numbers do not match, your tags will not scan at the register, and we will not be able to sell your items.

  2. Use cardstock that is at least 60# or 67# for printing tags.  DO NOT print tags on regular copy paper.

  3. All tags must be highlighted down the right-hand side of the tag using our color-code chart.  This is to help us in the sorting process at the end of the sale.  Only highlight in one color, either yellow for items that are to be donated, or the color specified by your last name for items you are picking up.


  4. When you hang your clothing, the hanger should look like a question mark, with the hook opening on the left.  Tags should be placed on the top right-hand side of the garment.  Blouses or any type of clothing that can fall off the hanger easily should also be pinned to the top part of the hanger.  All pants and jeans should be folded over the top part of the hanger and pinned.  If you have two-piece outfits, the pants should be pinned to the top part of the hanger behind the shirt.

  5. For items other than clothing, place your tags on the item where it is easily accessible at checkout.  DO NOT put your tags inside of a plastic bag.  Your tag must be attached to the outside of any bag.  You may staple tags to bags or use packing tape to tape them to the bag.  DO NOT cover the barcode with tape or staples.  The barcode scanner must be able to read the barcode so that the item does not have to be manually entered at the register.  This will ensure a faster checkout process for the customer.

  6. If you have an item that is an odd shape, such as round, or an item that is hard to tape a tag to, the best way to adhere the tag is to use a hole punch and punch a hole in the middle of the tag about a half-inch from the top of the tag.  Use string to tie the tag to the item.  Do Not tape tags down to round items.  The tag must be flat in order for the scanner to read the barcode.

  7. If you are putting items in plastic bags, it is best to put small items in plastic bags with a closure, either a Ziploc bag or any plastic bag that can be stapled, taped, or tied securely.

  8. We prefer that you use clear packing tape to adhere your tags to your items when possible.  If it is not feasible to use clear packing tape to secure your tags, you can use staples, safety pins, painter's tape, scotch tape, or masking tape to adhere your tags.  Use painter's tape for items that you do not want to leave a tape residue on. You must use painter's tape when adhering tags to all books.  Tags get separated from their items much easier than you may think.  Be sure to use the best method of securing your tags to your items.  If a tag becomes separated from the item, we will not be able to sell your item. 

  9. To sell multiple items together, put as much into one bag or box as you can and label the tag on the main bag or box and include in the description of the main tag how many parts there are.  For example, "part 1 of 3."  You will only generate and print one tag from the online system for these items so that there is only one barcode to scan at checkout.  You will need to create manual index card tags for parts "2 of 3" and "3 of 3," etc.  The only information that is needed on the manual index card tags are your consignor number, the item number, the item description, price, and "part 2 of 3," "part 3 of 3," etc.

  10. Sort items by size, category, item type, theme, holiday, etc.  This will help you put your items out much faster on drop-off day.

  11. Barcodes do not scan with tape over them, nor do they scan when the barcode is faded, bleeding, or blurry.  If we manually input tags into the system, it slows down the checkout process for our shoppers, and it can also lead to errors for inventory sold. Please reach out to us if you have any issues with printing your tags, and we will do our best to help resolve the issue. 

  12. Bundle items sold together in baggies or with string or masking tape (books, etc.)

  13. Large items that are hard for the shopper to carry around will need a large merchandise tag, which will be completed at drop-off.  If you have items that need a large merchandise tag, do not adhere your tag to the item.  Give us the tag when you drop off your items, and we will attach the tag to our large merchandise tag and then place the tag on your item.

  14. Do not wait until the last minute to enter inventory and print tags.  Get in the habit of generating tags after they have been entered and saving the .PDF file on your computer.  (Computers love Murphy's Law).  If you don't want to print your tags until later, you can access the saved .PDF file at any time and print when you are ready.  There are times when the MyCM system is down for maintenance or to fix a problem.  You don't want that to be the case when you are trying to access the system to print your tags right before tagging is locked for the current sale.

  15. Important Note - the price and other information that is printed on your tag and attached to your item is what the item will sell for - not the information that is shown online.  (For Example:  If you have changed the price of an item in the system but did not reprint the tag, the price on the tag will be different than what is shown in the system, and the printed tag will prevail.)
